How Project UNITY collects, uses, and protects the information you share with us.

01 Who we are

Project UNITY NFP ("Project UNITY," "we," "us," or "our") is a youth-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect when you visit projectunitynfp.org, apply to one of our programs, donate, subscribe to our mailing list, or otherwise interact with us.

By using this site or providing information to us, you agree to the practices described below.

02 Information we collect

We only collect information that you provide to us directly or that is automatically sent by your browser when you visit our site.

Information you give us

  • Program applications - when you apply to Catalyst Academy, Y-PHIC, or our mentor program, we collect your name, email, school, grade level, academic background, essays, and any additional information requested on the application form.
  • Newsletter signups - your email address, and optionally your name.
  • Donations - your name, email, billing address, and payment details. Payment card data is handled directly by our donation processor (see Section 4) and is never stored on our servers.
  • Contact forms and email - any information you include when you write to us.

Information collected automatically

  • Basic log data: IP address, browser type, device, referring page, and pages viewed.
  • Cookies and similar technologies (see Section 5).

03 How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Review and respond to program applications and mentor submissions.
  • Process donations and issue tax receipts.
  • Send program announcements, newsletters, and operational updates to people who have signed up for them.
  • Respond to inquiries sent through our contact forms or to our team email addresses.
  • Understand how visitors use our site so we can improve it.
  • Comply with legal obligations and protect our rights.

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your data with third parties for their own marketing purposes.

04 Third-party services

We rely on a small number of reputable service providers to run this site and our programs. Each handles data under its own privacy policy, which you should review directly.

Zeffy

Processes donations. We receive donor name, email, billing address, and donation amount. Card data is handled by Zeffy - Zeffy Privacy Policy.

Typeform

Hosts our program applications (Catalyst Academy, Y-PHIC) and mentor applications. Form responses are stored by Typeform and shared with us - Typeform Privacy Policy.

MailerLite

Delivers our newsletters and program emails. Subscribers' emails are stored on MailerLite's servers - MailerLite Privacy Policy.

SiteGround (hosting)

Hosts this website. Routine server logs (IP, requested URL, timestamp) are retained for security purposes - SiteGround Privacy Policy.

Google Fonts

When the site loads, your browser requests fonts from Google Fonts, which may log the request IP - Google Privacy Policy.

Embedded content & social media

Our pages may embed videos, images, or links to Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and AP News. These platforms may collect information about you if you interact with their content.

05 Cookies & analytics

We use a small number of cookies to keep the site working correctly and to understand aggregate traffic patterns. You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the site may not function as expected.

If we use an analytics tool (such as Google Analytics) we configure it with IP anonymization where available, and we do not combine analytics data with personally identifiable information.

06 Minors & student data

Catalyst Academy and Y-PHIC serve high-school and early-college students, many of whom are under 18. We take the protection of student information seriously.

  • We collect only the information needed to review applications and run our programs.
  • Applicants under 18 are asked to confirm a parent or guardian is aware of their participation.
  • Student work, photos, and names are published on our site or materials only with the student's (and, where applicable, guardian's) permission.
  • Applicants or their guardians may request that we remove their information at any time by contacting us (Section 10).

We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe we have received information from a child under 13, please contact us so we can delete it.

07 Your choices & rights

You have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correct information that is inaccurate.
  • Delete your information, subject to our legal obligations.
  • Unsubscribe from our newsletter at any time using the link at the bottom of every email.
  • Opt out of non-essential cookies through your browser settings.

08 Data retention & security

We retain personal information only for as long as needed to carry out the purposes described above, to comply with legal obligations (for example, donor records required for tax reporting), or to resolve disputes.

We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards to protect information against unauthorized access, including HTTPS on all pages, access controls on administrative tools, and vetted third-party processors. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

09 Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the new policy on this page and update the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes will also be announced in our newsletter.
